Will the Kuro be dethroned in 2011?

Three years later the Kuro 9G is still the HDTV king of picture quality and black level. In the fast moving world of consumer electronics how is this possible? How long will the Kuro's reign last? I don't know but CNET has an article titled "Will any 2011 TV best the 2008 Pioneer Kuro?"
I agree with the author in that 2012 may be the year that the Kuro's performance is finally bested. Just think, the Kuro 12G would be released this year if Pioneer had stayed in the HDTV business. It makes you wonder what could of been.

Would appreciate advice:

After about 18 mos ownership, it appears the tuner has failed on our Kuro after minimal tv watching during that time. (We're broadcast only. )

Did the Mar 2011 firmware update and incredibly the television came back on. Thrilled ....then it failed again a few hours later and hasn't revived.

Tuner replacement will cost approx $800 parts & labor, and requires removing the huge set from house to repair shop. Any suggestions?

Should we just switch to cable and leave the tuner unworking?

I went through all the steps of appealing to Pioneer, including a carefully composed letter, and was utterly dismissed by a functionary of the company.

Purchased the set at Magnolia to support local business, then it closed up shop!

Appreciate any suggestions on an approach to repair. Thank you.
